The night before Thanksgiving, my oldest and I took a trip to our friends over at Trophy Hammock Outfitters. They had spotted a size able gator for us to take a shot at before grabbing some hogs for Thanksgiving and Christmas. As usual, they didn’t disappoint!
The “big” gator ended up being 12 foot, 9 inches long weighing about 900 lbs. Look at this thing!

As you can tell by the picture, I was so worried it was going to fall on me and crush me, I couldn’t even look at the camera. This was an exhilarating 3 hour hunt for this beast! Ultimately, a .308 between the eyes ended the hunt as quick as it started. As usual, the Trophy Hammock guys did not disappoint. These guys are truly the best outfitters in the State. If you are looking for big hogs and gators this is the only place to check out. I am working on getting the head mounted and finished and will report back about it once it’s done. My oldest son also got an 8 footer with his new Sig Spear. The .277 Fury round was perfect for the gator and my son with its limited recoil. Despite supposedly having more recoil than a .308, it certainly doesn’t feel like it. Despite limited access to ammunition at the time of writing this, I cannot say enough good things about the Spear.
